Will all good people go to Heaven?

First we must determine what “good” means. It is a common assumption that people make usually when someone passes away, regardless of their standing or religious belief. If they believe that person was a “good” person, surely they will be rewarded in heaven. According to the Bible, this is inaccurate on the principles of: who determines what is “good”, how do they define what is “good”, and how do you know if the good was desirable for a reward to Heaven?

And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.” Luke 18:19

Jesus Himself, son of God, said that even He was not “good”, only God alone is good and God alone can than decide what is good and what is not. that is a very humbling statement. The son of God did not consider himself good, than who am I to think I am worthy of anything?

Man can not determine what is deemed good and what is not because we are not the judge, nor the creator. Our arbitrary visions of good are determined by our different viewpoints, emotional state of mind, and the variations of views from others around us. We change our minds all the time, God is constant and consistent. A school of toddlers would be a very hard world to live in in comparison to a single older, wiser person who has seen and experienced much more and is able to give wise, well thought out determinate of what is right and wrong. The toddlers may not always agree, but as they grow they will find the rules put in place were for the best for everyone.

So than how do we know we are following God and doing good in His eye?

How to walk with Jesus

“Formerly, when you did not know God, you were enslaved to those that by nature are not gods.”Galatians‬ ‭4:8‬ ‭ESV

Before knowing God, we are trapped by worldly behaviors such as vanity, gossip, alcohol/drugs, lust, contempt, selfishness, hatefulness, etc. One who is trapped in these behaviors needs a friend or loved one who knows God to correct them. One who continues this type of lifestyle intentionally sins and The Father, the creator and judge of this world, will not be pleased by them.

“But if anyone loves God, he is known by God.” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭8:3‬ ‭ESV
So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.” 1 John‬ ‭4:16‬ ‭ESV‭‭‬‬

Our most important commandment given by Jesus is to love God with all our heart, mind, and soul. If we love God, have faith in Him, trust Him, and consult Him in our prayers He will abide in us. Our love for God should reflect in our everyday lives and actions. In how we treat others, how we work, and the words that come out of our mouth.

God created EVERY person on this earth. He loves every person, even those that don’t love or know Him. It is than our job to recognize that everyone who is on this earth is loved by God, how would God view us if we mistreated any of His children? Gossiped, said mean things to them, or behind their back, hurt them, slandered, lied to them. God doesn’t approve of that behavior, the second most important commandment is to love your neighbor as yourself.

And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”” Matthew‬ ‭22:37-40‬ ‭ESV

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,”Colossians‬ ‭3:23‬ ‭ESV

‭‭“You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works;” James‬ ‭2:22‬ ‭ESV

Our work is very important. He gives us gifts and talents, just as in the parable of talents, if we use our talents in a way that is pleasing to God, we will be rewarded as faithful servants. If we bury our gifts and don’t use them to Gods glory we will pay dearly for our lack of faith and refusal. this verse is the last verse of the Parable of talents about the servant who buried his talent in the dirt.

And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’”Matthew‬ ‭25:30‬ ‭ESV‭‭‬‬

Our choice of words matter greatly. There are Many, many verses warning about the use of the tongue and mouth for good or evil. By watching our own tongues, and the tongues of others we can see the followers of the world in their unbridled, hurtful words, evil lips, lying tongue, and prideful spirit.

“A worthless man plots evil, and his speech is like a scorching fire.” Proverbs‬ ‭16:27‬ ‭ESV

‭‭“”You give your mouth free rein for evil, and your tongue frames deceit.” Psalms‬ ‭50:19‬ ‭ESV

‭‭‬“They set their mouths against the heavens, and their tongue struts through the earth.” Psalms‬ ‭73:9‬ ‭ESV

‭‭‬‬Also with the tongue we can see a true follower of Jesus; one who talks highly of Jesus, brings up others, helps, and corrects others lovingly. This person is also careful in their words to not be hurtful, deceitful, and keep control over his tongue so to not fall into sin.

“Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.” Proverbs‬ ‭21:23‬ ‭ESV

“For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭7:10‬ ‭ESV‬‬

and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians‬ ‭2:11‬ ‭ESV

“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians‬ ‭3:17‬ ‭ESV

Our God, our creator and judge, our Father who has reserved a place for His people, will judge us individually and fairly. We need to be True followers, following in His ways alone and not the ways of the world. He is a loving God, but a jealous God. You cannot serve two masters, you will need to pick and your choice will have a consequence (your soul will either go to heaven or hell, there is no other option). If you say you are a follower of Christ, but are hurtful in your words, deceitful, selfish, lazy, etc. than with your mouth you are confessing you are a follower, but your heart follows the world. the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of heaven (1 Corinthians 6:9). It would be wise for you to examine your heart and decide what you are truly following. Just as in the parable of the ten virgins, all professed they were followers, all were invited to the wedding feast, but only five actually readied themselves and prepared themselves for the Lords return while the other five slept and did not prepare. When the Lord came five were ready to go, and the other five were not ready and had to go ready themselves, by which time the wedding feast doors were closed and the Lord told them “I do not know you”. We don’t know when He will come as we could die tomorrow, or the Lord may return to call up His followers at any time. We each must prepare ourselves, change our hearts to follow Him, and turn away from sin.

For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭4:24‬ ‭ESV‬‬
Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’” Matthew‬ ‭25:11-12‬ ‭ESV

“For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”” Romans‬ ‭10:11-13‬ ‭ESV‭‭‬‬

“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day. It is written in the Prophets, ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me— not that anyone has seen the Father except he who is from God; he has seen the Father. Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.” John‬ ‭6:44-47‬ ‭ESV

God is our final judge, and only He can determine the truth in our hearts and where our souls end up eternally. He is the gatekeeper. A person may be good, but if they were good for man and the earthy attention, but had no love for God in their heart, than how could God award them heavenly rewards? We may never know if our loved ones made it to heaven or not, as we will never see their true heart. We can get a good guess based on how they talked about God, how they treated others (not just their friends and people they like), and how they lived and worked.

“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 6:1

“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians‬ ‭3:17‬ ‭ESV

God Bless,
