If you’ve been following along with us at City Folk Goin’ Country, you already know we have a deep love for practical, purposeful animals that truly earn their place on a homestead. Today, I want to share an update on one of the animals we’re especially passionate about—our Red New Zealand rabbits.
These rabbits aren’t just beautiful—they’re something special.
Why Red New Zealands?
Red New Zealands are one of the rarest color varieties in the New Zealand breed. While most people are familiar with whites, reds are far less common—especially when you’re talking about pure, pedigree lines. That’s part of what makes our program unique.

Over the years, we’ve worked intentionally to build strong, healthy, well-tempered lines. Because of that, we’ve had people travel from out of state just to bring these rabbits home to their own homesteads. That’s something we don’t take lightly.
We’re not just raising rabbits—we’re preserving quality.

Last Year’s Pairings (And a Few Surprises)
Last year, we bred both Scarlet and Columbine to our buck, Chunky. These pairings gave us some incredible offspring, and we made the decision to retain a few to strengthen our breeding program.
We kept:
Annika
Cinnamon
Both of these does showed exactly what we’re looking for—strong structure, great coloring, and solid temperament.
And then… there was Pippi.
Pippi definitely kept us on our toes by turning out to be a buck! He’ll be staying here as a future breeder, and we’re excited to see how he develops.
This Season’s Breeding Plans
Annika and Cinnamon have both been bred to Titan, one of our favorite bucks.
Titan isn’t just a solid rabbit—he’s got the kind of temperament that makes a difference, especially for families. He’s incredibly gentle and genuinely enjoys being handled and loved on by our kids. That matters to us. A lot.
We believe temperament should never be overlooked in a breeding program.

These litters are due beginning of April, and we’re expecting some beautiful babies.
Availability – Looking Ahead to Summer
If everything goes as planned, these kits will be:
*Ready for new homes in June
*Perfect timing for summer rabbit shows
*Ideal for those looking to start or improve their own breeding programs
We’re also offering a limited number of one-year-old rabbits that are ready to step straight into a breeding role on your homestead. If you’re looking to skip the baby stage and get right to production, this is a great opportunity.
Our Goal
At the end of the day, our goal is simple: Raise high-quality, well-tempered, productive rabbits that actually serve a purpose.
Whether you’re:
*Building a meat rabbit program
*Getting started in showing
*Teaching your kids responsibility through livestock
*Or simply wanting a reliable, beautiful addition to your homestead
We want to help you start with animals you can trust.
Interested?
If you’ve been looking for Red New Zealand rabbits, especially true pedigree lines, now is the time to reach out. Our list tends to fill quickly once babies arrive.
We’re always happy to answer questions and help you figure out if these rabbits are the right fit for your goals.
